We rolled through there one summer trip—
I occupied a seat in back.
I loved the town—the little strip
Of town—I wanted to unpack
And live right there for evermore—
I felt that I would love it so.
But on we rolled (I knew the score),
And life rolled on (as you well know).
And so … no Stanley—then or now.
No, it was not the place for me.
But Stanley lives within somehow—
In heart—and in my memory.
