Show Me the Place, 38

“Show me the place.”
Duke Senior in As You Like It (2.1)

Harmon School; Aurora, Ohio; 1982–97

It took a while, but back I went—
The job to me was heaven-sent.

An opening they had—at last!
And I leapt back into my past.

The English-teaching, all the plays—
Oh, I just soared through all my days.

But one day I looked up and knew—
Retirement loomed, and I was through.

It all had flown in such a rush,
But I had held a royal flush:

I loved that job—the students most.
My colleagues (I don’t like to boast,

But they were great—I learned so much.
Because of them—their Midas touch.)
