“Just hold your horses!” Billy said—
And you should do what Billy wants.
The Kid can make you quickly dead—
His bullets answer any taunts.
His life was short (the Kid’s, I mean)—
He lived to be just twenty-one.
And just when things were looking green,
Behind him was Pat Garrett’s gun.
