(We all dislike/hate certain words and locutions; here are some of
mine.)
The Fall
Was it Eve who first suffered? She heard the snake say,
“It is easy—it’s low-hanging fruit!”
And we know what ensued (oh, the suffering we’ve felt!),
But I don’t really care—not a hoot.
But that saying’s remained—and forever, it seems—
And it’s more than my poor heart can take.
It’s as old as is Eden, and so it remains
As the reason I still hate the snake!
