about the countries of the world.
Congo. (The
Democratic Republic of the)
It’s there in
Central Africa—
It once was
called Zaire.
It once was
“darkest Africa”—
And much was
there to fear.
It’s area is
wild and vast—
And looking
strange to me:
A little
western finger that
Leads out
there to the sea.
The
chimpanzee, gorilla, and
All sorts of
jungle beasts
Roam through
the wildest forests—why?
They search
for protein feasts.
It’s got some
mountains, as you know—
That Congo
River flows.
And lots of
turmoil (government!),
As everybody
knows.
We will not
say a word about
That Tarzan
guy—and Jane—
Nor Boy nor
Cheetah—and I know
I don’t have
to explain.
