Show Me the Place, 66

“Show me the place.”
Duke Senior in As You Like It (2.1)

66: Gardiner, Maine; March 19, 2003

This is the town where Robinson*
Grew up—where he began to write.
He labored hard—got each word right—
And borrowed light from moon and sun.

And in a small park in the town
There stands a stone to honor him.
His final days had been so grim,**
But he had earned his great renown.***

*Edwin Arlington Robinson, 1869–1935
**death to cancer in NYC
***he would win 3 Pulitzer Prizes for Poetry
