1944 to … Now
1991–92 School Year

Another 8th Grade Show this spring—
I loved them more than anything.
But life was complicated now—
My energy would fade somehow.
And I was working hard right then
To write some books, for I had been
Out to a summer seminar
In California—very far!
And there, with London scholars, I
Had spent a lot of dollars—why?
Jack London, writer—I had filed
So much about his book—The Wild—
The Call—the North—the dog named Buck—
And I was hoping I’d have luck
And publish all I’d learned and found—
And so I did. (I like the sound
Of that.)
