Around the World in the Good Ship DOGGEREL, 158

A doggerel series about the countries of the world.

Solomon Islands.

King Solomon was very wise—
That baby thing? A real surprise.

It seems its name came from that king,
Who had vast riches—everything.

Nine hundred islands—very vast.
And people? Critters? Quite a cast.

Jack London sailed there years ago—
He lost his health—felt very low

The rest of his truncated life—
He left it all to his poor wife.

The place is equatorial—
And most of it arboreal.

So many types of birds are there—
And smaller mammals, everywhere—

An emperor that is a rat—
A flying fox (you can’t beat that!).

And off the shore? Oh, hear my tale:
You’re bound to see a humpback whale!
