Sound and Sense, 2-7

Time for more instances of the homophone: a word pronounced the same as another but differing in meaning, whether spelled the same way or not, as heir and air.

1. heigh (interjection): an exclamation used to call attention, give encouragement, etc.
2. hi (interjection): used as an informal way of saying “hello”
3. hie  (verb): to go quickly; to cause oneself to go quickly
4. high (adj.): rising or extending upward; located far above the ground or another surface; a state of intoxication + many other definitions

I hied me to the local mall
To look for drugs to get me high.
I saw my dealer, muttered “Hi”—
But he was not amused at all.

Heigh! Look!” he cried. There on the top
Of that high hanging balcony!
I hope you see what I can see!”
I looked and saw a narc—a cop.

And then I ran—but saw on sale
A pair of shorts I really liked.
I stopped. Oh, I was really psyched!
The next I knew I was in jail.
