A doggerel series
about the countries of the world.
Uzbekistan.
My dad went there in ’58 (or
so)—
Among the first Americans to go
Into the Soviets’ secluded land,
Where many things we cherish—all
were banned.
And Tashkent is the nation’s
capital—
A place that’s landlocked (that
can be so dull).
It gained its freedom—1991.
Its Independence Day—September
fun!
The country has a large supply
of gold—
And that’s a resource that does
not grow old!
It has, as well, a lot of
natural gas—
Which benefits, of course, the wealthy
class.
The animals, I’ve read, are
mostly small—
And just their wolf will
threaten you at all.
The hedgehog—not a worry—nor the
fox
Unless with one you’re trapped
inside a box …
And then … you lose!
