Frightening
Doggerel
Bookless: abibliophobia
Just in
case, she took a look
To make
sure that she'd packed a book—
Or two or
three or four or five,
For books,
she knew, kept her alive.
She had a
fear of being caught
Without
one. She was sure she'd brought
One … it
was not a dream.
But no! I have none! Then a scream.
And she
then tumbled in her grave,
And there
was nothing there to save
Her. Till
she heard a coffin-knock,
A sound
just like a mantle clock.
She opened
up—Why? Just for fun,
And there
stood a librarian—
A service
only underground,
And she
was happy: She had found
Her answer
to eternal bliss—
Some books
to read in the abyss!
