Port Jervis was where Stephen Crane,
That Red Badge writer, grew
When he was in his days of youth—
Was learning what to do.
The Delaware flows right nearby—
Some mountains near, as well.
And soon young Crane was learning that
He had some tales to tell.
We visited—a walking tour—
And saw some sights he knew.
And grieved that he had died so young*—
With so much left to do.
