A Journey from
1944 to … Now
1992–93 School Year
Harmon Middle School
I didn’t do a show this year—
So strange a year for me.
But I was sort of “moving on”—was
Writing frequently.
I published op-eds now and then—
The PD’s op-ed page.*
Was working on Jack London books.
(I wish I’d been more sage.)
But I still loved the teaching life—
The classroom time and all—
The kids were great—my colleagues, too.
It all was still a ball.
Our son was still in college—so
We had some bills to pay.
We thought about him all the time—
Discussed him every day.
But not too many years remained
In my loved Harmon days.
Retirement loomed not far ahead—
My mind was all ablaze
With possibilities. I’d write!
I’d read! I’d travel far!
I’d do the things I’d longed to do—
I’d follow every star.
