Volcanic archipelago—

Near Africa—the eastern coast.

It has a Sunni Muslim host—

The Indian Ocean—pace is slow.

Its independence came at cost

In 1975. The French

Had been there once, had tried to quench

Their thirst for power. But they lost

Dominion there—the Portuguese

Had been there too. But left as well.

The poverty is grim to tell,

Could bring so many to their knees.
